The City of Atascadero is excited to announce the approval and upcoming launch of a new Aquatics Program, set to begin in Summer 2025! Approved by City Council, this much anticipated program will provide a variety of recreational swimming and instructional opportunities for the community.

The City’s Recreation Team is actively collaborating with the Atascadero High School Athletic Department (AHS) to bring this program to life. The Aquatics program will officially run from June 16 through August 8, operating Monday through Friday, from 12 noon until 4 pm. Programing will include: Open Recreation Swim, Lap Swim, Parent & Me classes, and swim lessons for Levels 1 through 4.

AHS is also developing a course to train and certify students as swim instructors and lifeguards, creating an ideal pathway to help staff the City’s Aquatics Program. This win-win partnership ensures the community gains access to quality aquatic services, the City has a reliable source of qualified lifeguards and students gain valuable certifications and meaningful summer job opportunities.

The City is currently recruiting for an Aquatics Coordinator, and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

The return of aquatics programming was identified as a priority during the Measure D-20 Sales Tax discussions and funding from this measure will support the program’s launch and operation. The City is grateful to Council, the community, and Atascadero Unified School District and Atascadero High School for their support, including the construction of a new pool that will benefit youth sports and residents alike.
